Tether Lead

The tether lead has been designed to keep your dog secure when helping them practise calm behaviour. When tethering is taught properly it will help your dog to learn how to be calm and relax. It can be very easy for a dog to become over-aroused. When a dog is in a heightened state of arousal they can start displaying a number of undesirable behaviours. By working with them to help them manage their behaviour, your dog will learn how to settle quickly. 

There is a selection of different webbings and thicknesses for the tether leads ranging from 13 mm – 25 mm. We have included a guide below to help you choose the size that is suitable for your dog.

Both ends of the lead are adjustable to make it easier for attaching to your heavy furniture and you can easily adjust the length of the lead.

13 mm – Toy and small breed puppies (Teacup breeds, Jack Russell, cocker spaniels, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians).
16 mm – Small breed adult dogs and medium puppies (Border Terriers, Miniature Dachshund, Cavaliers, Beagle, Springer Spaniel)
20 mm – Medium breed adult dogs and large puppies (Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Vizsla, Whippet, Labrador)
25 mm – Large and giant breed puppies and dogs (Great Dane, Newfoundland, German Shepherd, Irish Wolfhound)

Your tether lead should only be used when your dog is being supervised, they should never be left alone when tethered. You also need to ensure what you have tethered them to is not going to move, for example a piece of furniture. If possible the best solution is to install a tether ring. These can then be removed when you no longer need to tether your dog.

Tethering is a training exercise that should be worked on with a qualified and experienced trainer who understands the correct process for teaching this exercise in a calm and force-free way.

Tethering should only be used as part of your training for your dog and never for anything other than training.
